The Art of Growth Without Greed

internamentalhealt

Therapists in Minnesota have been targeted by owners of agencies and private practices who value profits over people.  It’s understandable that therapists now are looking at Interna and wondering what’s different?

Interna is brand new and less than a year old and has hit the therapy world running fast.  Many owners of private practices have said they are different but often lacked tangible actions to prove they are showing up better for the therapists doing the work and for the people they serve.

We want to do something different here.  We are trying to build a collective where everyone from admin to therapists to leaders have a say in the direction Interna moves. We want to actually be transparent and pair our words with actual behavior to show we trying to be better and stand out among the rest.  We put together a list of what growth looks like for us to help our followers understand what our strategy is.

1.       Work/Life Balance -  We value therapists at all different capacity levels.  We know it isn’t realistic for everyone to work full-time. Our ask for hours is having 10 sessions a week.  This means to fill our space we may need several therapists to one office. This is helpful because our clients have more specialized therapists to choose from and our therapists aren’t held to an unrealistic standard.  Therapists can flex up and down based on their financial and life needs.  We encourage time off for reflection and recharge. From the outside, it may look like have a lot of staff, but that’s due to the flexibility we offer for hours while maintaining our financial needs.

2.       Additional Locations- We don’t believe in expanding just to expand for profits. At Interna, all therapists are part of our collective which means everyone gets an equal vote on things such as expansion.  We go to our collective to discuss and vote whether to open new locations and plan to only open locations as our therapists or collective goals warrant it. We want to ensure that we continue to stay consistent with our values and morals and our collective atmosphere lets us have regular, intentional discussions on how our actions are matching with the values of Interna.    We believe in keeping things manageable and prioritizing therapists and client needs over profits.

3.       Equitable Wages- We don’t believe it’s fair to have the folks at the top holding all the wealth.  We believe in paying a living wage to all of those who contribute within Interna. We have passed initiatives to develop a profit-sharing model and hope to stabilize that in the next year or so.  We are passionate about compensating fairly for the work being done so we review rates we are receiving from insurances and review rates for therapists continuously to maintain financial goals.
