Jac Brown, MSW LGSW (she/her, they/them)

Reaching out to a new therapist is often a scary experience, and I applaud your courage.

As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where we can work collaboratively to address your concerns and highlight your strengths. My style is casual and conversational. I believe we can do serious work together without taking ourselves too seriously!

Many of the clients I work with struggle with trauma inflicted by a world (or family of origin) that has made them feel "othered" due to neurodivergence, queer or gender identity, or for being a very sensitive person. Perhaps you feel as if the world wasn’t made for you, and you're looking for a non-judgmental therapist who will help you feel the confidence you need to live an open-hearted, authentic, and values-driven life.

My practice is grounded in a systems theory framework, and I do not hesitate to acknowledge the pervasive impact of systemic oppression. I believe that diagnosis can sometimes help us to understand ourselves and our experiences but ultimately are much less important than insurance companies would have us believe.I advocate for a holistic and collaborative approach, informed by trauma-informed principles and harm reduction methodologies.

My approach is eclectic and intuitive, drawing from relational and insight-based modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am also pleased to offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy, an effective modality for trauma recovery.

My history in social work, addiction recovery, and activism has taught me to value harm reduction and autonomy. I see my clients as the authorities on their lives and my role as an observer, supportive guide and collaborator. I believe that as queer and radical people, living our best lives is a part of building the better world that I know is possible.

I look forward to working with you!
