Maya Farr-Atkins, LGSW (she/her)
I’m Maya, a queer, neurodivergent therapist dedicated to providing a safe and accepting space
for you or your child to learn skills to cope with emotions before they feel out of control, increase
your connection to yourself and others, and meet your emotional needs without shame.
Whether you’re experiencing meltdowns, suicidal thoughts or behaviors, self-injury, school
refusal, impulsivity, or feeling like you’re “too much” in relationships, I’m here to support you in
finding strategies that work for you when navigating challenges. I will provide you or your child with collaborative, individualized care based on your unique strengths, values, and needs.
I am deeply aware of the ways that traditional therapy can miss the mark for many people, especially neurodivergent people and people who have experienced trauma. I work to create a space where you can feel truly understood and appreciated at every step of your journey. In a world that encourages us to hide our differences, you deserve a space where you feel safe to practice unmasking at your own pace and without pressure. I will support you in identifying and advocating for the accommodations you need to safely unmask and meet your needs both in and out of sessions.
There’s no one right way for therapy to look. Our sessions may include games, movement, art, play, or simply sitting and talking in a quiet, peaceful space. We can talk the whole time or sit in silence for as long as you need. You’re in charge of your own treatment, and I’ll be here, ready to adapt our sessions to fit your needs. Regardless of how our time together looks, you an expect genuineness and collaboration as I believe these are two of the most important gifts I can offer in any relationship. I recognize that your life extends far beyond our sessions, so I am always open to collaborating with schools, treatment providers, and other supportive people depending on your preferences.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, playing video games, making all kinds of art, cooking, and playing with my dog, Alcott. Creativity is a major part of my life both personally and professionally, and I believe that it is one of my greatest strengths in adapting to the changes life brings.
