Courtney Kutzler, MSW, LGSW (she/they)
Hi! I’m Courtney. I’m nerdy, kind, and a bit weird. And I’m glad you’re here. You might be here to build skills for overwhelming emotions. Or to process and heal from trauma. You may be exploring what it means to unmask and live more authentically. Or you’re simply exhausted from being human right now. I’m here with you.
Much of my work is with neurodivergent kids, teens, and young adults, especially those who have experienced trauma or who have spent a long-time masking to survive. My approach is relational at its core. There is too much pressure already in life to do too much too fast. In our space, we will find our pacing together, with me meeting you wherever you are at. We will work to build a sense of “enough” trust and safe-enough. We can learn more about how your brain and body interact, what your individual nervous system needs, and process life events.
“But Courtney, is this just going to be sitting and talking with you asking me on repeat, ‘How does that make you feel?’” No, that’s not quite my style. Depending on your interests and needs, you can expect us to use movement, fidgets/fidgeting, creativity/art, and games/play. You will be encouraged to meet your sensory needs and your autonomy will be respected, regardless of your age and abilities.
“Am I going to be judged for the things I tell you I do?” Nah, I know we all do the best we can with the skills and resources we have available. There is always more to what people can see us doing going on for us underneath. In therapy, we can learn more about those things.
When not in “therapist mode”, I spend time with my family including my three (going on 13) year old daughter and three dogs. I like crocheting, playing DnD, watching superhero content, and whatever my current hyper-fixation might be.
